Have you written a MSc thesis on the relationship between humans and nature?
Wageningen University, Staatsbosbeheer and NatuurCollege annually organize the Birgit Elands Thesis Award for the best HBO or WO final thesis on the relationship between humans and nature. The prize rewards students who contribute to our understanding of contemporary human-nature relationships and how fostering this relationship can contribute to a nature-inclusive society.
For this Birgit Elands Thesis Award, we are looking for excellent theses on a wide range of topics on human-nature relationships. Theses can relate to nature and health, nature-positive design, green activism, recreation, cultural practices, learning in and with nature, transformative research, etc.
The prize is intended for students at Dutch Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences. The winner receives €1000 and a tree that will be planted in the Wageningen Food Forest. More information on the award and criteria for submission of a thesis: https://tinyurl.com/ElandsAward2025
Theses are submitted by students or their supervisors. A letter of recommendation (maximum 1 A4) from the supervisor must be added to the thesis, stating why this thesis is suitable for the Birgit Elands Thesis Award (including the assessment/final grade of the thesis)
Send the thesis in PDF plus a letter from the supervisor (with final grade) before September 30, 2025 to office.fnp@wur.nl, stating “Birgit Elands thesis award” in the subject of the email.
